Inspired by the ROCK:
If the world smiled
Humanity would be the fucking plaque
Colonizing every surface
The popcorn kernel chipping its teeth
Then lodging so tight
No amount of string theory
Could floss us out
Humanity is an inflaming gingivitis
Burning its home to the ground
Earth tried to rinse us out with antiseptic floods
Brush us off with blue mint glaciers
When it all becomes too goddamn much
And the deductible’s been met
The Great Dentist will come
Drilling down to the core
Scraping us out by the billions
But no scaler or curette
Can cure this patient
In some hidden corner, feeding in darkness
On greed and vanity, pretending we are the chosen ones
Stroking our engorged egos
Trying to spawn copies of our broken selves
Down in that dark we fucking remain
Living decay

Wow! I feel the need to floss after that. Great entry for the challenge. And the metaphor is working soooo well here! 'Antiseptic floods' is a great line. We need more of those floods.
Heyyy Sean! So happy to see you're back with something new. Your poem packed a hugeeeee punch of truth. Loved it!
This is a powerful piece, Sean. It is good to hear your voice again!
Amazing piece; blew me away! Thank you so much for this awesome read and entry! IMO a Top Story sounds up your alley!
Raw, guttural, eloquent. I often find myself looking out on places landscaping encroaches on ecosystems and wonder if the net result of human presence is just destruction...wish more of us could be enamel rather than plaque. Powerful work, Sean!
Humanity needs to wake up, indeed, Strong imagery here, Sean.
I fucking hate the dentist. Seriously traumatized multiple times.
Oooooo edgy and on point for the challenge! Great analogy
