Far-travelers

for the love of the migrant

By Gabriel HuizengaPublished a day ago Updated a day ago 1 min read
my unfinished drawing of a Gyrfalcon

See them, with me, and love them:

far-travelers of many colors, singing a thousand melodies,

storied, each, having crossed Atlantic, Pacific, dunes or plains,

bearing beauty, self and story, from places that grew cold to them,

borne in turn along the shifting tides and crosswinds,

in numbers more than one could count, name, or know,

and looking for a home on this great, dark, spinning earth.

I am one who sees and loves the birds;

how could I not do likewise

for the immigrant?

    Such a lively and lovely flip on the script we’re fed everyday. Well done!

    That drawing? Excellent. Your words? Excellent. I too love birds and constantly find them a source of delight and wonder.

    Next up… “near-Travelers” Could be the preface to a self-help book for flightless birds…lol, but seriously…beautiful-a true feeling of flight while reading. Thanks for sharing.
