The Prompt

The stories we’ve grown up with—myths, legends, and fairytales—carry timeless lessons and themes. But what if these tales were told in today’s world? This challenge invites you to reimagine a classic story with a modern twist. What would happen if Little Red Riding Hood had a GPS or if Icarus learned to code his own wings?

Your story should retain the essence of the original tale while bringing in new perspectives or relevance. Whether you make the story humorous, satirical, or thought-provoking, we want to see how you breathe new life into these timeless narratives.

In order for your submission to qualify, it must be:

• Second Place: $200
• 15 Runners-Up: $15 each
• 10 Honorable Mentions: Badge

For your story to be eligible, it must be between 1,000 and 2,500 words and adhere to our Community Guidelines.

Stories published on Vocal and entered into the Challenge up until February 5, 2025 at 11:59 PM EST will be entered for consideration. Official Rules for the Challenge can be found here.
