How Well Do You Live?
''Yes, I have a homeland. The French Language.'' - Albert Camus * Something very strange happened while I was reading this book. Usually, I have a few things on the run (too many books; too little time?), and this was added to a stack that often threatens to crush me in my sleep. I would skip from one to other, often disappointed, confused and enlightened...but rarely entertained (the cold and the darkness outside probably played a role, as did the constant running around from contract to contract). And I really don't care what any intellectual in any academic setting claims, you need to be entertained when you pick up a book.

OK Gooner
Oh, how interesting things become in a new year. Here we are, just past January; just after a Super Bowl, and a Grammy ceremony; just after the break between what was and what we are is so stark and clear that even the ones naive enough to not believe things now accept that the ugliness was always there under the rock they refused to lift.

Chatting with GPT
The text came quickly. The printer had it ready. The prof only stared. Correct! * Thank you for reading! If you liked this, you can add your Insights, Comment, leave a Heart, Tip, Pledge, or Subscribe. I will appreciate any support you have shown for my work.

The A-List
Link to the Challenge: Americanize Authoritarianism? Abominable! * Note: usually, I would put this under my 'Political' series of haiku, but this began as a response to Harper Lewis' 'Bullet to the Face' entry, and I felt I had to share my work...and her own.

Dear Groundhogs...
Note: some of you do not celebrate Groundhog Day (every February 2nd). You might be familiar with Candlemas Day (European inspiration for the event). If the groundhog in question sees its shadow on a sunny day, six more weeks of winter; if not, an early spring. And our rodents - starting with Willy and Pete (there are others) - have different prognostications above and below our borders. Nice.

Political Thirty-Four
Another cold day... The news turns to the public. January burns. * Note: I am not trying to be cryptic with my work. And I am not so desperate to think that any words will make a difference now. I just feel that this is a turning point that I predicted when more idiots with weapons were unleashed in the streets of Minnesota. And some people say they are angry or enraged. If you are, and you are not doing anything about it...you are not angry enough.

Ikiru and How 'To Live'
I was very lucky to not have money as a young man, and to have certain role models in my life. We borrowed a VCR from a relative, who eventually let us have it when it was clear that we were the bigger film fans, and I began to learn all I could about tracking, setting the time properly (a real rite of passage), and timing it for the shows I would miss due to school and work. I still have a set of tapes neatly arranged and labelled somewhere in my mother's house, and they are also numbered, meaning that I can see where I began and where I ended up.
